The ALERT (Acute Life Threatening Events Recognition and Treatment) course is a multidisciplinary course focusing on the recognition and management of the acutely unwell or deteriorating patient.
Internal (Te Whatu Ora HV) Staff only. An all-day course for clinical staff working in community areas and hospital based HCA staff including community mental health staff and other community based HCA staff.

Induction day for nurses working in inpatients areas who are new to the hospital.
A one-day course for Health Professionals who may be expected to lead or take a key support role in managing a cardiac arrest or acute medical emergency. There is pre-reading and an eLearning test that need to be passed before attending this course.
This course is designed for Shift Co-ordinators, ACNM’s or people who are expected to take charge of a deteriorating patient or patient emergency for the first few minutes before the Emergency Team arrive. There is pre-reading element to the course.
This course aims to prepare staff for managing or taking part in resuscitation at birth. It is intended for all staff that may be called upon to resuscitate a baby at, or immediately after birth, comprises of pre-reading, delivered sessions and scenario practice.
The Paediatric Life Support (PLS) course is a one-day course provided by DHBs throughout New Zealand which is especially suited to junior doctors and nursing staff.
At the completion of this course nurses will have an increased understanding of the important components needed for successful preceptorship.
The Clinical Training Unit is no longer able to provide Resuscitation Education or ALERT courses for healthcare workers outside of Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley. There are private providers who may be able to assist you to access the learning you need.

Te Rā Whakatau (TRW) is our welcome and orientation day for all new staff to Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley (on Hutt/MyPay payroll). This is part 1 of the day - you must also book part 2 for the Mandatory & Vocational session or Moving & Handling following TRW.
This training is sponsored by the Ministry of Health and designed to ensure clinicians are able to recognise and respond effectively to the signs and symptoms of child abuse and intimate partner violence. There is an eLearning module that needs to be completed before attending this course.
Workplace assessor training is designed to train assessors who need to evaluate performance against standards in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings.
