Close to 30 of our Hutt Senior Medical Officers recently had an amazing experience at Te Kakano Marae attending the two-day ‘Te Pūmaomao Nationhood-Building’ Course.

Byline: Close to 30 of our Hutt Senior Medical Officers recently had an amazing experience at Te Kakano Marae attending the two-day ‘Te Pūmaomao Nationhood-Building’ Course.

The Te Pūmaomao Nationhood-Building course focuses on strengthening cultural responsiveness, cultural Intelligence, cultural competency while aiding the decolonisation process.

The Decolonisation training is about influencing hearts and minds through a process of increased understanding of Te Ao Māori (The Māori World). It focuses on understanding Māori through, their world view, their history, their aspirations and their social standing in Aotearoa.

Hutt Radiologist Senior Medical Officer Dr Jaco van der Walt said he had a “wonderful experience” at the course and shared that experience with us and why he would encourage others to do it also.
