Are you scheduled to have surgery or have an outpatient appointment at Hutt Hospital between Tuesday 18 October and Thursday 20 October?

Due to a planned 48 hour strike by junior medical staff at Hutt Hospital and at other hospitals in New Zealand, your surgery or appointment may be postponed. We are contacting anyone affected.

Please be assured, if your surgery or appointment does have to be postponed, you will be re-booked to the next available session.

We apologise in advance for the inconvenience this will cause and reassure you that our number one consideration is for the safety of our patients.

Reduced Services

All our services will be reduced during this time.

Our Emergency Department will still be open but only for emergencies.

Please contact your GP or after-hours medical centre if it isn’t an emergency so that our Emergency Department staff can help those who need it the most.

Services which will remain open are:

·Emergency Department

·Intensive care unit

·Children’s acute assessment unit

·Coronary Care Unit

·Acute surgery

·High dependency units

·Mental Health Intensive Care Unit

·Special Care Baby Unit

·Dental Department

Services which will be affected are:

·Outpatient Clinics (closed, with the exception of urgent outpatients)

·Endoscopy Unit (reduced)

·Elective surgery (cancelled and rescheduled)

·Cardiology (reduced)

·Rheumatology (reduced)

·Day Procedures Unit (reduced)

·Operating theatres (acutes only)

Patients requiring tertiary intensive care will continue to be transferred to tertiary hospitals if required
