“Dental care is free if you’re under 18 in the Hutt Valley” is the message that’s given Albert (Albie) Rehutai, Ben Vaovasa and Jason Elmsly something to smile about.

The three Safe City Ambassadors from the Hutt City Council are out and about raising awareness about the free regional dental service this month, along with staff from other community organisations.

“Good oral health is important so that children and teenagers can eat, speak, smile and learn, confidently and free of pain,” says Bee Healthy Regional Dental Service Clinical Director Kathy Fuge.

“We know that every year more than 300 children have dental surgery in Hutt Hospital under general anaesthetic to pull out severely decayed teeth so we want to get more children and teenagers enrolled.”

To enrol your child or teen in the service and make an appointment to get their teeth checked, parents or caregivers can
ring Bee Healthy on 0800 825 583.Oral health care from pre-school through teenage years is publically funded by Hutt
Valley DHB, although orthodontic treatment is excluded.
