While IBD has no known cure, it can be managed effectively.

Well known local visiting gastroenterologist and stand-up comedian Richard Stein is presenting another of his popular community forums for patients, families and friends who live with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

Supported by local IBD nurse Catherine McKinlay, and Chrohn’s and Colitis NZ president Brian Poole, the evening is a both an education session and a discussion forum.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a medical term for chronically inflamed intestines, which can result in:

  • frequent abdominal pain and diarrhoea
  • fever
  • fatigue
  • anaemia

For most people with IBD, the usual course of disease involves periods of remission with occasional flare-ups. IBD cannot be cured yet, but it can be managed effectively, especially with the use of medications and some self management techniques.
