If you've recently stayed in one of our hospitals, you may receive an invitation to complete a survey.

Invitations to take part in the first of a new series of surveys were recently posted to people in Hutt Valley who spent at
least one night in Hutt Hospital from 4 to 17 August 2014, as part of a national survey of 7500 patients.

Recipients of the survey are encouraged to complete the survey on line using the unique code provided.

For those without smartphone or computer access, posted responses are equally encouraged.

The two DHBs’ General Manager of Quality and Risk, Amber O’Callaghan encourages people to fill in the survey.

“This is an important way of improving the quality of hospital care and understanding how well health services are working for patients and their families,” she says. “We really appreciate the time people take to reply to the surveys, as results will help Hutt Valley DHB staff learn from the feedback, and further improve services to the public.”

The survey was developed by the Health Quality and Safety Commission and is the first time hospital patients’ feedback has been collected and measured in the same way across New Zealand.

DHBs will send the survey to randomly-selected patients at least once every three months.

Responses to the survey will be collated to give each DHB a rating out of 10 in four areas: coordination, partnership,
communication, and physical and emotional needs.

Results of the first survey will be available on the commission’s website in October 2014.
