The Wellington and Hutt Valley regions are experiencing a community-wide outbreak of respiratory viruses, including RSV. This can cause serious respiratory infections in very young children, elderly and seriously immune-compromised people.

As a result of this outbreak Hutt Valley and Capital & Coast DHBs are implementing visitor restrictions to protect vulnerable patients and ask people to not visit wards if you have had fever, cough, sore throat, or runny nose in the past 24 hours.

We also advise that children under 12 not visit a hospital unless there is a clear medical need.

To protect vulnerable patients, children aged under 12 will not be permitted to visit the following areas.

Wellington Regional Hospital

  • NICU
  • Maternity and Delivery
  • Ward 4 North
  • Wards 1 and 2
  • Ward 5 North
  • Acute Frailty Unit (Ward 3)

Children aged under 12 are also not permitted to visit the Kenepuru Maternity unit or the Kapiti Maternity

Hutt Hospital

  • SCUBU
  • Children's ward
  • Maternity and Delivery

Information about visiting our campuses is available on our visitor page. Thank you for helping us to keep patients safe.
