Just a reminder our Medical Imaging Technologists (MIT) including X-ray, Mammography, CT and MRI staff will be taking industrial action on two days during the week beginning 14 October 2019 starting on Monday.

Staff will withdraw their services from 7am on Monday 14 October 2019 for 24 hours. This will be followed by a second day of strike when services will be withdrawn from 7am on Wednesday 16 October for 24 hours

Medical Imaging Technologists who are members of the Apex Union will undertake strike action around the country. Sonographers (ultrasound) are not affected by this strike.

Strike planning well underway

Contingency planning is well underway to ensure we can continue to meet patients’ needs in the face of the staffing gaps that the strike action will create.

Patient safety and wellbeing remains our highest priority and focus during this time. We will continue to provide imaging for patients where the need has been determined by our senior doctors to be life or limb preserving. We will provide appropriate management for other patients until we can provide imaging after the strike.

This planning has involved prioritising essential and acute services over others – meaning some appointments and elective surgeries that require imaging have been rescheduled. Patients who have appointments or surgeries during this time have already been contacted and rescheduled appointments made. Patients who are uncertain about their scheduled appointments or procedures are being asked to call us on:

  • (04) 587 2558 for X-ray
  • (04) 587 2552 for CT and MRI
  • 0800 270 200 for Breast screening services regarding mammograms.
  • (04) 570 9901 or 9665 for breast clinic/symptomatic mammograms.

Consistent with our Values, Hutt Valley DHB respects the right of APEX union members in taking this action. We also respect the rights of members who chose to continue to work over this period. We appreciate that people have made choices as to what role they will play and our senior managers are encouraging all of us to respect each other’s decisions over the period of the strike.
