Thanks to a donation from the Petone Rotary Club, patients admitted to the Medical Assessment and Planning Unit ( MAPU) at the Hutt Valley DHB will be able to watch TV during their stay.

A kind donation from the Petone Rotary Club will make a big difference to patients admitted to the isolation rooms in the Hutt Valley DHB's Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU).

Nursing staff noticed that the morale of patients admitted to the rooms often dropped as a result of not being able to socialise with family and other patients, nor where they allowed to walk around the ward or enjoy the TV in the Whanau Room.

Cathy Whiteside, MAPU Clinical Nurse Manager was approached by staff, and a patient in isolation asking about the availability of a TV. The staff discussed their concerns for these patients and came up with some project ideas. From these discussions Cathy contacted the Rotary Club of Petone who kindly donated two televisions for the isolation rooms.

On behalf of MAPU and the DHB, Cathy, her staff and patients want to thank the Rotary Club of Petone for their wonderful donation.
